Springsure Cattle Camp

Have you ever been to an event where it reinforces what you love about your job and reignites the passion and drive you have for it?

Well - covering the fourth annual Springsure Cattle Camp did just that for me. It was one of those events where everywhere you turned there was a great photo opportunity and a smile on someone’s face.

Judging 62 young paraders kept Siobhan Franics and Anthony Flint busy.

Going through each of these images has brought a smile to my face and formed a sense of pride for I have captured the next generation of cattlemen and women.

Sixty-two children travelled from all around the Central Highlands region. Once there they were separated into six different groups – Team Santa, Team Droughtmaster, Team Angus, Team Brahman, Team Brangus and Team Limousin. From there they learnt about all things cattle and it did not matter what level of understanding you had everyone was catered for.

New friendships were formed and mates were everywhere. For the older groups they stepped up and mentored the younger ones, rekindled old friendships, and shared their experiences from years gone by.

As I look back over the pictures I recall the enthusiasm that was shared by all, the laughs that were had and in some cases the tears that were shed. From the friendships that were made, the knowledge that was passed on and the hands-on experiences that will never be forgotten.

For all of this to happen you need a magnificent team and Suzie Walters had just that. A massive shout out goes to everyone involved and may you be congratulated for many days to come! It is because of people like yourselves that the passion and knowledge of cattle is passed on to others.

Whether they are third generation cattlemen and women or a kid from town who has an interest in cattle you were all there to help develop that eagerness to learn and better themselves and for that you should all be commended. It was a magnificent three day event that allowed plenty of hands-on experiences and learning for children and adults alike.

You all showed that it did not matter where the children came from, what their upbringing was like or what cattle they preferred. Everyone was treated as an equal and given the same opportunities as each other.

Well done to everyone involved in the 2016 Springsure Cattle Camp. You should all be very proud of yourselves and your community.
